That’s no panther, that’s a monkey

A year after the state wildlife commission asked the public to report sightings of Florida panthers, 790 reports have come in. But not all were panthers.

A few overexcited, or possibly near-sighted, members of the public submitted photos that turned out to be bobcats, foxes, dogs, house cats, coyotes, and in one case, a monkey. But most of the reports that came with photos were confirmed as panthers, largely in the endangered cat’s core range southwest of Lake Okeechobee.
